Historical Background:Bapatla Engineering College was established in the year 1981 by the then MP Kona Prabhakar Rao, with a total intake of 180 students in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electronics and Communications Engineering branches. The college was initially affiliated to Andhra University and later to Nagarjuna University from 1984 onwards. An additional section with an intake of 60 was sanctioned for the Mechanical Engineering branch in 1987. From year 1994, The College embarked on programs of expansion in terms of courses and intake, infrastructure and facilities. Presently the college offers 9 B.Tech degree courses with an intake of 630. Additional 10% intake is through lateral admission in the second year. The College also offers 6 P.G. courses in sciences including MCA with a total intake of 234.Location:The College is situated a little away from the din and bustle of Bapatla, a medium sized town in Guntur District 40 miles (64 km) south of Guntur City, with a historic and hoary past, about 75 km south of Vijayawada on Chennai – Vijayawada rail route and is 15 km to chirala.The Bapatla Engineering College, one of the six educational institutions sponsored by the Bapatla Education Society, was established in 1981 affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University. This college is considered as one of the top 10 colleges in Andhra Pradesh.The College has also applied for Autonomous Status and an Inspection Committee constituted by Acharya Nagarjuna University has inspected the college on 15th June, 2004 and recommended to AICTE for grant of autonomous status to this college. The Institution of Engineers (India) accredited 8 B. Tech., programmes offered by the college based on the recommendations of the 6-Member Sub-committee of senior Professors from IISc, Bangalore constituted by it. Further, the Ministry of Surface Transport recognizes Mechanical Engineering course of the college.College Profile:This College is one of the 17 Colleges out of nearly 240 Engineering Colleges in Andhra Pradesh, which is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The six B. Tech courses which are accredited are: Civil, CSE, ECE, EEE, EIE & Mechanical. Recently, this college has been selected as a Network Institute for the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the World Bank.
