Hawk Missle Site Korea
This is the location of one of several Hawk Missile sites in Korea. First designated as B-Btry 7th Bn, 1st ADA, later re-designated as B-Btry 1st Bn, 2nd ADA (Hawk). The Battalion Headquarters was in Shihueng. In 1976 the site transitioned to the improved Hawk missile, and in 1980 the site was transferred to the Korean Air Force. It is also known and identified as Site #42 on military maps.
The admin area is directly below the site and appears to have had some of the buildings (barracks and community latrines/showers) torn down.
A great deal of urban expansion and vegetation that currently encroaches the perimeter and surrounding area made it difficult for me to visit this site on the ground when I was there in 2005. I had been assigned there from Mar 1975 to Apr 1976 and a sentry dog handler.
There were two types of Missile sites there; Nike Hercules, and Hawk. The Battalions were: 1st Bn, 2nd ADA; 1st Bn, 44th ADA; 2nd Bn, 44th ADA; 2Bn, 71st ADA. There may have been more, but I cannot recall them. They were all assigned to the 38th ADA Bde, headquartered at Osan Air Base.
I have many photos from my time there in the 70's. Would like to obtain more and would be willing to provide what I have in exchange.

Edited by TheShu (02/20/06 08:40 AM)Great history of B Battery Rick! I was there as the Battery Medic in 1969 when it was B 7/2. This aerial view brings back a lot of memories.
Thanks for the post. Bob - California Skype: california.bobRick, Thanks for the great view. I've often looked for this site but had never really found it. I was stationed here from April 1969 to May 1970 when it was called B-7-2 as Bob indicated above. I recall that the medic was just rotating out when I got there and it must have been him. I was really thrown by the highways that are so close to the admin site. When I was there it was about 20 clicks to the MSR and all over dirt roads through a few villages and many rice patties. I'll connect with you by email since I have a few hundred pictures from the period but if there are any others reading this that want to be in contact, you can reach me at
