World's Largest Plains Cottonwood
Here is the world's largest plains cottonwood.
Its Circumference is 432 in., Height 105 ft., Crown Spread 93 ft.
The tree is located right next to an old irrigation ditch.
The area is owned by Boulder County open space an is closed to the public.
In a monument to foolish government stewardship, there is a short (25') gravel trail leading to a nice plaque. However, the area is closed with a gate and a sign gives a number to call for a private tour. The plaque is so close to the road, you can almost read it from the Gate!
I wish the county would open this up to the public.
